What is the Quadrantids Meteor Shower?

The Quadrantids Meteor Shower, named after the now-obsolete constellation Quadrans Muralis, is renowned for its brief yet intense peak. Unlike most meteor showers that last several days, the Quadrantids offers a short but stunning burst of activity, with up to 120 meteors per hour visible under ideal conditions. These meteors are produced as Earth passes through the debris trail left by asteroid 2003 EH1, making the Quadrantids unique among meteor showers, which are typically caused by comet debris.

When and Where to Watch?

• Peak Activity: The Quadrantids peak between the night of January 3rd and the early hours of January 4th, offering the best viewing opportunity.
• Best Time to Observe: The meteors are most visible after midnight, with the radiant point high in the northeastern sky.
